So you have your Twitter handle set up. It’s catchy, creative, unique and memorable. Facebook is also up and running, complete with photos and links. So now what? Why haven’t your followers increased? Why don’t you have more friends? Where are these billion people that are supposedly active on social media? Why are you so lonely!?!?
Although here in Miami LeBron James is the unquestioned King, the throne of the marketing world belongs to someone else – Content. Content is the ruler of all things social. Without it, social media wouldn’t function. In fact, it’s so important, you should probably stop reading this post right now and start generating some of your own. A great place to start is with a blog, and we’re not saying that just because ours here at CMP is stellar. Blogging is a great way to express yourself. Be sure to write about topics that are going to grab your audience’s attention. Teach them something; open their eyes to new and interesting experiences. Don’t be afraid to post links to other websites/articles that interest you. If you find them interesting, somebody else will too. A great site to use for this is alltop.com, which aggregates the most popular articles from different websites all into one place, and separates them by industry.
Most importantly, be sure to post photos and videos. Studies have shown that visuals tend to be much more engaging than words. They draw more likes and comments than any other form of posting. And when you think about it, this actually makes sense; this is why platforms such as Pinterest are becoming so popular.
Fear not, your social media effort so far isn’t for naught. Drive more traffic to your online profiles and increase engagement with your followers by producing content that is intriguing, exciting, and unique.
